With this project we aimed to reduce language barriers in relation to the language of the host country by providing educational tools so that young migrants can express themselves through various forms of media, allowing them to promote their specific needs with a media voice, rather than being co-opted by groups seeking to promote their own agendas using migrants. At the same time, the objective was for them to overcome any language barriers regarding to the language of the host country, because they will have the chance to improve their foreign language skills. As a consequence, this will ease in the short term their inclusion and it will in the long term facilitate their integration in the society of the host country and in Europe. Through the SeHeMe project, young migrants and refugees have discovered a means of communication that will help them express their views. An additional priority was the promotion of young migrants‘ and refugees’ active citizenship and their sense of initiative and youth entrepreneurship.
The motivation for SeHeMe project derived from the difficulties, which young migrants and refugees face during their attempt to get integrated into the society of the host country. We apply for this project because the need for language education among migrants in Europe is strong. Especially for those with migrant and refugee backgrounds, it is vital that they be able to communicate with the people of their host country in order to successfully build a life for themselves. We apply for this project to increase inclusion and diversity in the field of training youth. The aim was to build bridges between young migrants and refugees and the local community of the host country. This project allows this target group to reach a level where they are able to express themselves through various forms of media, enabling them to promote their specific needs with a media voice rather than being coopted by groups seeking to promote their own agendas by using migrants. The needs addressed were inclusion of marginalised young people, media literacy and tackling disinformation and reception and integration of refugees and migrants.
