Objectives

Empowering Teachers from Iuliu Maniu to Promote Inclusion had the following objectives: 1. Increasing the inclusive skills of teaching staff through participating in mobility. The teaching staff participating in the mobility collaborated with other teachers and discovered solutions to the common problem of social exclusion, thus developing their inclusive skills. 2. Fostering inclusion in class trough activities aimed at promoting inclusion: our students were motivated to get to know each other better, to understand different points of view and to cooperate. 3. Formating a team including the authorities responsible for schooling/inclusion of children. Collaboration protocols were made with the police, the church and local authorities, respectively different activities to favor collaboration and inclusion.

Background

The ,,Iuliu Maniu” Secondary Schools has been functioning in Zalau, Salaj county since 1968. The school offers standard education for learners aged 6-14 and has two alternative programs, Step by Step for primary school pupils and ,,A doua Sansa”/ Second Chance Programme for learners who didn’t finish primary and secondary level school. The school has 270 pupils and 40 staff. Many of our students come from underprivileged backgrounds, especially Cartierul Pacii, a neighbourhood of the city with many social problems, hus implying a poor attitude towards school activities and the need of promoting inclusion. The current project offers an alternative to social exclusion by building cooperation for the indirect beneficiaries, pupils and teachers of the school and responding to teaching stuff needs for training on inclusion, for the direct beneficiaries.
