Objectives

It was our intent that, through this project, we could foster motivation for study and communication via foreign languages, by direct interactions with speakers from different countries, so as to fight against discrimination, segregation and to promote inclusion. Expanding digital and STEM competences in our students was also of significant interest for us; equally, we wished to offer young people the chance to discover and practise their leadership abilities – which could support their intitiative and decision for a durable future, by taking up responsabilities and coming up with solutions to the topics under discussion.

Background

Students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds study in our high school and our town is known as a multicultural space, reuniting various ethnicities: Romanians, Hungarians, Armenians and Roma people. Furthermore, the activities we have engaged in in the past few years have set our organisation on the course of developing multiple, relevant abilities in our students, be them STEM competences, through taking part in activities involving the robotics team, or cultural competences, successfully aimed at by the debate club, by our school’s magazine or school choir, and also in athletic activities (handball, basketball and football). Moreover, the study of foreign languages has proved to be an essential coordinate for our school – therefore, the English language is studied both intensively and as a first language, while French is studied as a second foreign language. Hence, the present project stands as an opportunity for us to practise important abilities – to communicate in a multilingual context, to organise, but also to identify possible solutions to the issue which constitutes the topic of our project (water from the perspective of sustainability), which sparks interest on both local and international levels.
