Objectives

Through the implementation of the PEDA GREEN project, we aimed to improve teachers' abilities to provide comprehensive education on environmental and sustainability issues, promote ecological awareness from kindergarten groups to upper-level high school classes, and especially incorporate sustainability into the curriculum, thereby breaking down barriers between subjects. The project's activities encouraged hands-on learning, going beyond theoretical knowledge, and offering participants practical experiences as well as a deeper understanding of ecological challenges and sustainable practices. Modern educational approaches leveraged children's natural environments through dynamic classrooms, outdoor activities, and student-centered learning focused on sustainability. Incorporating sustainability and green sequences into our practices contributed to educational reform and empowered teachers, making it an essential part. Involvement in the project provided teachers with the tools and confidence necessary to effectively adopt and implement these modern approaches, ensuring they can inspire and guide practitioners as well as children/students toward a sustainable future.

Background

As an educational institution with a vocational profile, CNPAS aimed to methodically train its teaching staff in the area of educating green transversal competencies to adapt to and understand the development requirements in education and educational policies, especially because it trains future educators and teachers. This involved CNPAS's teaching methodologists, the school s practice supervisors, as well as those from application kindergartens and schools, aiming to gain a new educational vision based on sustainable values. The PEDA GREEN project allowed access to knowledge and skills for modernizing and enhancing the effectiveness of classes for both teaching staff and student practitioners in the field of sustainable development through applied principles and transdisciplinary didactic strategies. The green transversal competencies formed were passed on to student practitioners, who implemented them in kindergartens and primary schools. Through their classes and the green sequences introduced into lesson plans, practitioners contributed to raising awareness of environmental issues, valuing a healthy and sustainable environment, saving and efficiently using natural resources, and fostering responsibility.
