Objectives

Eurostat reports that Romania displays one of the EU's lowest rates (27.4%) of involvement in cultural activities. Primary reasons for this disengagement include financial constraints (12.2%), lack of interest (28.1%), absence of such activities in local areas (23.6%), and other miscellaneous factors (36.1%). Our project specifically addresses two key issues: Firstly, the lack of interest, particularly among young individuals residing in rural areas where cultural offerings are notably scarce or entirely absent compared to urban regions. Art and cultural initiatives within local and regional communities serve as a means to bridge communities, fostering participation, providing an engaging alternative to the routine, and offering educational opportunities. The European Network for Rural Development highlights the significant role of art and culture in enhancing rural areas and the quality of life for residents. These initiatives facilitate connections, unite disparate communities (such as urban and rural populations, farmers and consumers, rural communities and local authorities), improve communication about rural areas, cultivate a shared cultural identity, and provide employment prospects for disadvantaged groups with limited opportunities. The “A(rt)CTIVE Youth” project was an opportunity for 5 NGOs with a total of 25 participants and 5 group leaders to met directly, over 8 days, who discussed and put into practice the importance of the spirit civics and active citizenship through art. • Mural art, which helped them to express their civic spirit in a creative way; • The Forum Theater, which provided participants with a safe environment to express possible scenarios in our society where today's young people can be active in their community and how to motivate the rest of the community to participate in their activities; • Oxford debate - a formal type of debate which helped the participants a lot by developing the public speaking skill and getting out of their comfort zone; • They have created a good practice video that can inspire young people to be active citizens. The objectives of our project was the following: - to motivate the 25 participants + 5 group leaders who came from 5 different countries, to express their civic spirit in a creative way using mural art and forum theater. - to create a safe environment for all 25 participants + 5 group leaders from 5 different countries, so that they can "spread their wings" and take the initiative to become active citizens; - to further motivate the 25 participants + 5 group leaders to become active volunteers in their country; - to increase self-esteem and self-confidence among all 25 participants + 5 group leaders through adequate feedback during and after each workshop session; - to raise awareness among local communities about the importance of civic spirit and how it improves our society and lifestyle; - to promote the values of non-formal education and the benefits of the Erasmus + program in all 5 countries participating in the youth exchange, with the help of the final video and the flash mob of our project.
