Objectives

“Smart choices for healthy lifestyle” represents the initiative of seven partner organisations based in Romania, France, Italy (2), Czech Republic and Turkey(2). The core idea of our partnership addressed the common need identified at the level of communities after collecting information from target groups - an increasing number of youth who are followers of unhealthy lifestyle patterns. The target group was represented by approximately 200 youth aged 13-30 in partner countries. Through direct observation of the behaviour of youth related to lifestyle, secondary data collected through desk research of studies, policy documents and materials that contain relevant data regarding this issue, surveys, we analysed the points listed above and concluded that our youth face similar challenges when it comes to health status. Through this project, we implemented a series of feasible activities focused on improving participants’ well-being and empowered them with the knowledge, skills towards adopting a healthy lifestyle, paying more attention to diet and nutrition, the consequences of their choices upon themselves and the environment, taking up sport and (re)discover the connection with nature. Thus, we built awareness of the emotional, developmental, professional and personal benefits of young people when making conscious changes to their everyday routine. The project provided a response to Goal 3 – Good health and wellbeing, as part of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. World Health Organisation draws attention to the spread of obesity among young people because of imbalanced nutrition and physical inactivity, according to data published on 9th June 2021. https://www.who.int/newsroom/factsheets/detail/obesity-and-overweight. Moreover, according to the results of the statistics undertaken by Eurostat on the proportion of the overweight or obese population in the EU member states as well as in Norway, Serbia and Turkey, weight problems and obesity are rapidly increasing in most states. Thus, it has been found that 52.7 % of the adult (18 and above) EU’s population was overweight in 2019. https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=Overweight_and_obesity_-_BMI_statistics Also, following the survey carried out at the level of target groups we are working with, their responses indicated that they rarely exercise, manifest low motivation to practise sports and instead prefer a sedentary lifestyle, indulging mainly in unhealthy food, technology and indoor activities. Throughout this initiative we promoted healthy lifestyles amongst youth, participants’ motivation to take an active role in activities encouraging healthy life, highlighting social responsibility, smart inclusive growth and environmental friendly education have been addressed. The objectives we addressed consist of: O1 empowering the 40 participants - 32 youth and 8 group leaders - in the Youth Exchange with knowledge and abilities for a healthy balanced lifestyle in the long term O2 designing 10 outdoor recreational, game-based, social activity models for youth during the period of the exchange O3 putting into practice at least 5 instruments based on experiential, nature-based learning, non-formal methods with the group of 40 participants during the exchange O4 co-creating a collection of powerful healthy lifestyle tips for youth developed with the 32 youths participating in the exchange O5 enhancing the intercultural awareness, tolerance, respect for culture and diversity at the level of the 40 participants in the exchange
