Objectives

Our project was entitled `Green Expectations` - a parallel with Charles Dickens' novel, where the moral is that affection, loyalty, and conscience are more important than social advancement, wealth, and class." Within Green Expectations we adapted everything to our reality and taught young people that caring for nature, recycling and sustainability are imperative for the general good of the planet, to the detriment of mass consumption, plastic production, energy (CO2 emissions) which must be counteracted and reduced. According to Greenpeace, one of the largest environmental NGOs in the world, there is no ecological education or interest in this field in Romania at all. Given the current context and challenges, environmental protection means more than cleaning and consciously disposing of rubbish. Recycling is vital to our planet, but unfortunately many European countries do not enjoy much interest, either from the authorities or from the community. The municipal waste recycling rate remains very low in Romania, at 14%, and includes 7% of material recycling and 7% of composting, according to the country report on the 2019 assessment of the implementation of EU environmental policies (EIR ), prepared by the European Commission. According to another European Commission report, 14 countries in the European Union risk not being able to reach the municipal waste recycling target set for 2020, including Spain, Portugal and Italy. Malta is the worst, with a recycling rate of 7%. And Romania is on the second place in the bottom of the ranking. The idea of this project appeared in a seminar organized in Timișoara, Romania, on the topics of social inclusion of young people from disadvantaged groups using creative workshops on recycling. In this seminar, representatives of several organizations met and discussed the issue of recycling and measures to develop ecological behavior in local communities. The main problems discovered on this topic were: the need for education on the ecological spirit, the need to raise awareness about the issue of recycling and the need to create creative ways to promote and transmit basic knowledge for young people on this theme, a way to attract young people interested in this topic. This project focused on three important issues for partner organizations: - knowledge transfer between international partners regarding working with disadvantaged groups; - transfer of knowledge between international partners regarding creative work and activities that promote entrepreneurship; - raising awareness of the recycling of materials and their use in youth activities. Together with the 2 partner organizations, we thought about the benefits that such a project could offer to the young people involved as beneficiaries in the workshops promoted by each partner, giving everyone, both organizations and participants, the opportunity to learn from each other, when it comes to methodologies, how to approach certain issues, cultural awareness, entrepreneurship and ecological way of life. With this in mind, we designed the youth exchange in a way that gave participants an important role in the outcome of the project, from the organization of workshops when creating objects in creative laboratories, giving them a chance for personal growth, a sense of responsibility and initiative. The main aim of this project was to raise awareness of the importance of daily recycling. We designed the project program to focus each day on one of our goals, achieved through the daily activities described in the attached program, and achieving these goals allows us to take a step forward the next day. The objectives of the project are: 1. Increasing the knowledge about ecology and environmental protection among the 24 participants, during the exchange; 2. Developing the spirit of initiative, civic participation and active involvement among the 24 participants, during the exchange 3. Increasing creativity and artistic skills by finding sustainable alternatives to environmental issues, among the 24 participants, during the exchange 4. Increasing the level of knowledge about recycling and sustainability among the 24 participants, during the exchange period.
