The aim of this project was to increase the level of awareness on the emerging mental health issues affecting the young generation and on the necessity for taking more consolidated measures by the partner organizations and other professionals in the field. By addressing a concrete, targeted need of the young people – various mental health problems – combined with addressing other barriers faced by the young people because of their health, social, economic or geographical reasons, the project focused on fostering social inclusion and on capacity building of project partners to develop more inclusive projects and community-based programs. In order to achieve this goal, we settled 3 specific objectives: O1. Empowering 30 young people aged 16-24 y.o from the partner countries to share experiences, work on discovering essential skills, attitudes and behaviours that can help them dealing and coping with life’s issues in a more positive and constructive way. By contributing to project design (co-creation) and actively participating to implementing activities during the itinerant mobility, the young people learned how to work with themselves, how to deal with their vulnerable emotions and what coping mechanisms to use in difficult situations of life. Concretely, this objective was achieved through: • active engagement in planning the YE mobility, organizing and facilitating most of the workshops, reflecting deeply on personal needs and experiences while connecting with others’ shared experiences • creating a Mental Health and dissemination brochure based on their learning experience during the YE – a collection of reflection points, exercises and a radiography of how the YE looked like. • In the last day of the mobility the young people worked together on planning a next YE. While being empowered with such a responsibility, they gained confidence, good energy and learned to focus their attention on a project that is about them and for them • Follow-up activities: mini workshops or dissemination moments were organized in each country to share about the learning experience and about mental health in general • #SeeMe dissemination campaign (we used our social media accounts and the websites of our partners to share content about mental health and about the project; 1 online meeting was organized on 21st of October with 14 participants from all partner countries to discuss again issues related to mental health and to future youth projects) O2. Increasing partners’ capacity to offer mental health support to young people now and in the future. In our 2 follow-up meetings, we focused on how to create more inclusive learning environments for everyone participating in a youth exchange project but also on how to better support the needs of young people from our communities or organizations. We may say that this objective was achieved through the fact that: • we managed to build new partnerships with relevant stakeholders at community level (especially in the case of the hosting organizations – Ikaros Foundation for Active Youth and Creatorium) • we settled a common action plan with future interventions and projects addressed to young people that include potential contributions coming from local stakeholders O3. Increasing capacity of the six partners to better support the young people from their organization/community, especially those with fewer opportunities, to actively participate in E+ projects and community-based initiatives. The project partners need more experience and good examples to ensure equal access, opportunities and participation of vulnerable young people, as well as more inclusive methods and adequate social programs to foster their integration. We may say that this objective was partially achieved given the conflictual situation that arose between some of the young participants and the Italian group leader, and later on, somehow between the Italian organization and all the other organizations. However, as long as ideas exchanged between the other 5 partners, we agree that some good practices were collected in this project and that they were doubled by a strong reflection process during and after the mobility. We managed to: • Motivate and support the young people to plan and organize their follow-up & dissemination activities • Draft an inclusion policy with general guidelines that may be used, adapted and internalized by each organization, with conclusions resulted from the implementation of this project (good and not-so-good practices) pointing out: objectives, methods of adopting inclusion objectives at all levels in the organization, vulnerable categories of young people targeted, no of projects focused on inclusion of vulnerable young people/year, good practices in creating inclusive environments for youth, EC and E+ reference documents for inclusion.
