Objectives

We decided to carry out this project because we wanted the new generations to realize that migration, acceptance of diversity, and cultural and religious differences are key elements on which identity is based and are considered as fundamental values on which the European constitution and identity is based. We believed that it was necessary to inform and allow young Europeans to confront this sensitive issue, to learn about fake news and deception perpetrated by social media and newspapers on the issue of migration for political or personal purposes, to help them to be able to distinguish between fake news and news based on correct and verifiable information. We wanted to show them how hate speech, stereotypes, and racism are only based on misinformation and not knowledge. We wanted to develop a feeling of peace, brotherhood, and tolerance between peoples and cultures, and we believed that this could have be done through the implementation of this project, putting and encouraging discussion, comparison, and giving information and strategies to recognize and deal adequately with hate speech or racist episodes. Each country contributed and shared during the project their experiences and knowledge on the chosen topic. The objectives of the project were: - Make the 45 participants aware of the migration crisis and the phenomenon of hate speech, which is affecting Europe in recent years - Incite the 45 participants to take concrete actions against hate speech and defamation of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. - Promote in the 45 participants, feelings of brotherhood, tolerance, inclusion, and respect for diversity. (When we wrote the project, we planned to have 45 participants. Indeed, the actual project has seen the participation of only 23 people. Despite the reduced number of participants, the objectives and the reasons behind our project have never changed).
