Objectives

The purpose of our project was to bring relevant improvements to youth work by addressing serious educational needs that we have identified within the local realities of the project partners. The young people’s discrimination experiences have a life time impact and can have terrible consequences for their health, self-esteem and inclusion in society. Discrimination sadly leads some to take their own lives, based on the ‘Overview of youth discrimination in the European Union Report’. This is not only the reality of some countries in the EU, but also, and relevant for this application, the reality that the youth organizations that form this partnership are facing. NEEDS: In this context one NEED arised imperatively: the need to empower the social inclusion of youth, particularly of the ones who are marginalized and facing discrimination. Top 3 NEEDS of youth workers that we have identified: -Innovative methodology for social inclusion of marginalized young people; -New methodology to manage, support and guide the mental health of young people; -New methodology of individual and group youth work that can be done online, from distance. Top 3 NEEDS of marginalized young people: -Knowing themselves acknowledging their own strengths, unique gifts, abilities, resources; -Regulating their overwhelming emotions and states; -Belonging. The REASON we wanted to carry this project is because we want to address the rising needs, to contribute to an inclusive culture where the uniqueness of individuals is valued and needed. We created ‘Your Deeper Story’ that AIMED at increasing the capacity of youth workers to stimulate the social inclusion and empowerment of marginalized young people (including youth discriminated based on sex, ethnic origin, religion or belief, age or sexual orientation or who face mental problems), through innovative and qualitative methods of self-expression and education. These were rooted in nature and arts-based non-formal methods and techniques. THE OBJECTIVES of the project were: By the end of the project 26 youth workers will: 1. Enhance by 75% their degree of understanding the profile, characteristics and particularities of marginalization amongst youth and its effects on the individual and the collective. 2. Enhance by 75% their competences (knowledge, skills and attitudes) related to the innovative self-expression arts-based non-formal methodologies (such as storytelling, poetry, theater and visual arts) and their benefits for marginalized youth. 3. Increase by 75% their degree of understanding the use and benefits of nature as an environment that stimulates the learning, participation, inclusion, connection and empowerment of marginalized youth. 4. Increase by 75% their acquaintance of facilitating innovative self-expression non-formal methodologies through online tools for guiding and empowering marginalized youth.
