Objectives

1. Establish a framework for emotional support for students who were strongly affected by pandemic restrictions. 2. Create a school environment that replaces excessive screen time with activities that encourage positive emotions, creative expression, and self- and social awareness. 3. Develop tools to help students rebuild personal relationships after an extended period of social distancing. 4. Foster an inclusive attitude and the capacity to value diversity through debates on the 2030 Agenda and human rights. 5. Provide a supportive school climate aimed at reducing negative emotions—such as anxiety, worry, sadness, and insecurity—that affect adolescents’ mental health. 6. Strengthen the key competences of direct participants. 7. Raise awareness about climate change. 8. Equip teachers with innovative teaching tools for immediate use in classroom practice.

Background

Between 2020 and 2022, schools faced an alarming rise in stress, anxiety, and social isolation among students. This project was launched in direct response to the urgent need to reimagine the school as an empathetic environment that actively fosters personal growth and wellbeing. Initial needs assessments carried out in our schools revealed a lack of clear procedures and pedagogical tools for promoting wellbeing. They also highlighted challenges in classroom climate management, student motivation, and the handling of emotional issues. Students themselves expressed a need for emotional support and reported increasing difficulty in engaging in face-to-face interactions after prolonged screen time during lockdowns. These needs could not be effectively addressed due to: 1. The absence of tailored educational resources for socio-emotional development; 2. A lack of practical teacher training in this field; 3. The need for transnational cooperation to exchange good practices and foster pedagogical innovation. Furthermore, most partner schools had not yet integrated the concept of wellbeing into their strategic documents or curricular offer.
