Objectives

By implementing the "Science on Stage" initiative, we aim to improve the quality of STEM teaching in Serbia and strengthen teachers' skills through the improvement of teaching methods. We achieve this by exchanging teaching concepts with leading STEAM educators from European countries. The intention of this project was to enable the best STEM educators from Serbia - members of the Board of Directors of SonS Serbia and Sons Ambassadors in Serbia to learn about the best practices in partner countries and organizations, so that they could share these experiences with their colleagues in Serbia and the region. The intention was also to get to know in more detail the conditions and methods for Belgrade's candidacy to host the international SonS festival, through visits and discussions with the previous organizers of the international festival.

Background

Preparing students for the 21st century requires improving STEM education. Teachers need to acquire new skills to shape future scientists capable of critical thinking and creative problem solving. In order to cope with these challenges, teachers need to be enabled to use modern methods of teaching scientific disciplines. The Institute for Contemporary Education (ICE) functions as a network of educators throughout Serbia with the main goal of improving the quality of education through the professional development of current and future experts in the field of education, as well as the promotion of modern teaching practices and training. The Institute organizes professional training for teachers and other personnel in the field of education. It is the representative of Serbia within Science on Stage Europe (SonS EU), the largest European network of STEM educators, with a membership of over 100,000 teachers (https://www.scienceon-stage.eu/). SonS activities in Serbia organized by the ICE include: - Trainings, projects and workshops that include the exchange of best STEM practices. - The "Science on Stage Serbia" festival, which functions as a qualifying event for the larger Science on Stage EU festival, which gathers STEM educator
