Objectives

The aim was to increase the use of interactive whiteboards and tablets/mobile phones in teaching and raise competences and skills of teachers in implementing innovative methods of project-based learning and CLIL. Project-based learning was recommended by the latest reform in all subjects, and the CLIL is important for learning foreign language through other subjects, which enables students to use rich resources in a foreign language, as well as for better communication. For both methods, as well as for traditional one, the use of digital multimedia equipment is important, whether it is school or online based. In recent years, the school has procured interactive whiteboards for lab teaching, but they were not used enough in teaching. In this respect, the partner school has rich knowledge and experience, since equipment procurement, organization, and training to use interactive whiteboards and other equipment was one of their priorities in previous years. With good lab teaching organization and adequate knowledge of teachers, a greater number of lessons in our school are now conducted using innovative teaching methods and/or with the use of interactive boards in the classrooms, which maximizes the use of existing equipment.

Background

Gimnazija is a general education secondary school that has five different educational programs and organizes numerous curricular and extracurricular activities. There is a strong need to get to know the experiences of other schools in using innovative teaching methods and whose students achieve excellent results at the graduation exams. The latest reform of grammar schools brought us new challenges with project-based learning, and digitalization brought new teaching devices that could be used better. That is why the use of computers, interactive boards and other teaching devices is one of the school's priorities. Due to the lack of interactive/smart boards, it was necessary to reorganize lab teaching for the best use of current resources. Also, it was necessary for teachers to wide their knowledge, ideas and gain experience related to the project-based learning, as well as to update the bilingual approach to learning and teaching using the CLIL method, so that students could learn better foreign language and use foreign digital resources. Given that technology is close to students, it was necessary to use the possibilities of mobile phones, which today have mostly replaced tablets, for learning.
