Objectives

By this project we wanted to compensate at least partially the lost opportunities in skill development during the pandemic as the restaurants where our cook and pastry students should have had vocational education were closed. The motivation of some students was also greatly affected due to the passive methods of engaging with e-learning content such as reading, video conferencing, watching demonstrations, videos, and the delay in the acquisition of hands-on practical experience due to the closure of businesses so by this mobility we also wanted to raise motivation of our students after the lock-down and that way positively affect the academic performance and marks on the final school diploma. We believed that the international work experience would make them as well more attractive on the local labor market. For the accompanying teachers, we wished to have the possibility to see how online education was implemented on European standards. The project would have given them also the possibility to collect ideas and advice from like-minded people that would later be shared with other board members and implemented into the school curricula.

Background

Grammar and secondary school Dositej Obradović was established on September the 1st, 2019 as a legal heir of Grammar School and Secondary School Dositej Obradović. Our school has 5 educational profiles: grammar school, transport technical school, confectioner, chef and driver, with a total of 314 students in 17 classes studying in Hungarian and Serbian. Our students, future chefs and pastry chefs, have 12 lessons of culinary practice per week in school and one day of vocational practice in companies. We decided to include7 cooks and 7 pastry chefs into the mobility with the fact that the Coronavirus considerably influenced practical development of the above-mentioned career profiles. We wanted to give the students a possibility of compensation for the lost opportunities and negative effects which were caused by COVID-19.
