As part of the Erasmus+ project, eleven students and four teachers from our school spent a two-week internship in Budapest from May 7 to May 21, 2023. Children with developmental disabilities have specific needs. Opportunities for developing professional competences have been reduced. Adaptation of disabled people is much more difficult if society or some parts of the community show a negative attitude towards them. If a disturbed person is not sure that he will be well accepted in society, he shows less willingness to step into the unknown, withdraws and shows anxiety. This two-week internship was a unique opportunity for them to see and learn something more and not be segregated by the environment.
We are a school for students with developmental disabilities, which has been in existence since 1974. We do education, upbringing, protection and support for people with developmental disabilities of different ages and different types of disabilities. From our establishment until today, we have gradually expanded our activity in order to reach as many members of the population as possible for whom we verified our activity and provided them with professional help and support. Classes in our high school are organized for students with developmental disabilities. They enroll in it after completing elementary school, based on the opinion of the interdepartmental commission. All programs of secondary vocational education were created on the basis of modified curricula. The school enrolls children from the entire Zapadnobacka district (municipalities of Odzaci, Apatin, Kula and Sombor), as well as those from the wider territory, due to the unique possibility of housing students in the school's home. The educational profiles are: Florist - gardener and server.
