The project successfully achieved its overarching objectives by empowering and building capacities for young people and youth workers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, simultaneously enhancing regional youth cooperation and involvement in policy and decision-making, shedding light on the importance of young people’s participation on all levels and in all contexts. The achieved objectives include enhancing the capacities of 15 young individuals and 6 youth workers from participating countries with practical knowledge and skills in local, national, and European youth participation mechanisms and instruments, active citizenship and civic engagement, analytical and critical thinking, engagement with decision-makers via advocacy and policy making, and the use of digital tools. This was achieved with a tailored five-day Training Course for Youth Dialogue Pioneers and Youth Workers organized in Crikvenica, Croatia in March 2023. The training course was the first and the main activity of the project to set grounds for the upcoming activities, because it not only equipped participants but also served as a platform for sharing insights, experiences, and successful practices, and preparing for next steps of the project. From May to September 2023, the project objectives focused on improving communication and collaboration between young participants and local decision-makers through small-scale youth-led actions and initiatives i.e. the Youth Dialogue events. We exceeded the anticipated objective of having only 3 Youth Dialogue events, by having a total of 5. They all witnessed the practical application of the competencies gained in the training course through a demonstration of linguistic proficiency, negotiation and communication skills, mobilization of young peers in the local community, and ability to engage with local decision-makers. By organizing their local youth participation events, young participants supported local youth participation and constructive dialogue for improving their and the lives of their peers. They demonstrated commitment to pursue alternative ways of reaching out to the decision-makers and mobilize local peer support in order to vocalize their challenges and issues that need immediate attention from local stakeholders. The local events also highlighted how young participants became role models for other young people in their communities. The overarching fourth objective, to establish an informal network of Youth Dialogue Pioneers in Southeast Europe, was a sustained effort throughout the project. By creating a shared and co-owned space for communication and exchange through a WhatsApp group, young participants are able to stay in touch with one another and plan future local, national and regional youth activities. This network facilitated collaboration and knowledge exchange during the implementation of local activities, youth participation events, and the culminating Youth Dialogue Conference, ensuring the project's sustainability and fostering regional youth cooperation. The establishment of this network signifies an enduring legacy, as participants remain connected, ensuring the sustained influence of the project. The project's international dimension further supported project objectives through regional cooperation and brainstorming. The culminating event, the Youth Dialogue Conference organized in September 2023, provided participants with a platform to engage with decision-makers, share their experiences, and articulate future plans. In summary, the project offered the participants an opportunity to transform into proactive citizens capable of advocating for youth issues and engaging in substantive dialogues with local decision-makers. Therefore, the project successfully realized its objectives by empowering and capacitating young people and youth workers, fostering meaningful dialogue between participants and decision-makers, establishing a (self-)sustainable network of Youth Dialogue Pioneers in the SEE region.
