Objectives

Since its beginnings, the Newman Institute has been striving to offer the possibility to studies at excellent academical level and a dynamic environment for research. Its profile imbedded in the continental thinking tradition for studies of Philosophy and in the Catholic intellectual legacy for studies in Theology makes it a niche place for all those specifically interested in these sectors in Sweden. The possibility of exchange with other European countries is vital for the Institute’s intellectual integrity: participation in the Erasmus project aimed first of all to give chances to students and staff to widen their perspective and meet peers measuring themselves with the same challenges in other contexts. Moreover, considering education not barely the transfer of knowledge but the shaping of responsible citizens, offering chances to learning by experiencing other contexts was also meant to be a way to develop a reflection on European values. In comparison with the project 2020-22, the Institute wanted to achieve in 2022-24 a better performance in numbers and variety of activities, trying for example the format of the BIP for both students and staff, in order to gain experience with this format and be able to act as coordinating institution in the future.
