Umeå University (UMU) wants to be a part of the international education arena, and we have an ambitious policy for internationalization that we continuously strive to fulfill. Implementing the opportunities within Erasmus+ is fundamental for our university as it enables us to collaborate with strategically important partner universities as well as organizations that enrich the quality of our education. By implementing Erasmus+ we wanted to fulfill future objectives to engage in both European and non-European strategic partnerships, strengthening established links and initiate new ones. Through participation in Erasmus+, our students, teachers, researchers, and administrative staff can take part in exchanges and collaborations from which they learn, bring back and share knowledge they have acquired. This enhances the quality of our research and education and assists in educational renewal. We want to increase internationalization at all levels by participating in activities provided in Erasmus+. We play an important part for the local community and want to be an engine in our regional development and create opportunities for staff and students to get international experiences better equipping them for their future and ongoing careers, both as a mean of personal development, but also to ensure that our region has access to a well-educated workforce. Our ambition was to increase the number of students with an international perspective during their studies, this includes both own international mobility experiences as well as internationalization @ home through invited international teaching staff, staff participating in own mobility and spreading knowledge to staff and students afterwards. We wanted to offer more types of mobility opportunities, both long-term exchanges and traineeships as well as short-term mobilities to suit a broader group of participants. In order to offer a working and teaching environment with an international dimension available for everyone, we wanted to make staff and teacher mobility more wide-known and accessible. We wanted to increase the numbers of outgoing staff undertaking a teaching/training period abroad as well as the numbers of outgoing and incoming exchange students.
