This Erasmus+ cooperation originated from an initiative by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) to strengthen ties between Swedish universities and those in the Caucasus region. Södertörn University (hereinafter abbreviated as SU throughout this report) has already established a partnership with Ilia State University in Georgia. It has now expanded the agreement to include student, staff, and faculty exchanges. The project met its objectives: SU delivered lectures in Georgia, hosted visiting staff, welcomed Georgian students to Sweden, and initiated two research projects. SU is a young public university with a strong internationalisation strategy, founded on societal relevance, openness, and intercultural exchange. One of four priorities in SU’s Action Plan for Internationalisation is to increase mobility for students and staff. Meaningful exchanges enhance education and research, prepare students for an international labour market, and strengthen intercultural competence and language skills. Incoming mobility also contributes to the international campus environment that SU aims to provide, while fostering lasting global connections between individuals and institutions.
