Objectives

The DEMcare4all project was implemented to provide effective care to improve the lives of people with dementia, their caregivers, and family members. It focused on educating and raising awareness among caregivers, people with early-stage dementia, and children living with dementia patients. The project supported dementia caregivers while promoting intergenerational learning and reducing the stigma associated with dementia. By filling gaps in dementia-specific training and creating intergenerational tools, it strengthened the caregiving process and provided practical, emotional, and educational support to families. The project achieved the following objectives: - Educated and raised awareness about dementia among caregivers and people with early-stage dementia. - Familiarized and educated children living with dementia patients. - Supported caregivers who can better manage dementia patients and children. - Promoted learning opportunities across generations. - Reduced dementia stigma and improved inclusion.

Background

The DEMcare4all project was initiated to address the needs of four key target groups: formal carers, non-formal carers (family and friends), dementia sufferers, and children. These groups have overlapping but distinct needs, particularly in managing the emotional and practical challenges of dementia. Formal carers often lack specialized training in dementia care, while non-formal carers bear the dual burden of supporting both dementia patients and young family members. Children, too, require guidance to understand and cope with the changes dementia brings. The project filled this gap by developing educational tools for caregivers and intergenerational interventions that help children better understand dementia. It provided emotional support and resources for all family members, alleviating the stress on caregivers. By focusing on both dementia care and the needs of children, the project addressed a chronic issue across families and care institutions, ensuring a whole-family approach. The collaboration highlighted the shared need for emotional, educational, and practical support across all partner countries.
