Objectives

BACKGROUND "The main project" that encompasses all activities on the venue of the association is "The farm" (or activity center) (or learning center) (or adventure center). "The farm" includes more associations than the Erasmus/ESC accredited "Hästekasen Gård Förening" (HFA) (Hastekasen farm Association). They all aim for increasing quality of "country side living". And with quality we far from mean some kind of economic or comfort standard. We are aiming for "sustainable" living, "community" living. Trying to create infrastructures (physical as well as social) that can attract also younger people. This has been an ambition for 13 years. Progress is slow. The "urban norm" is hard to challenge and the modern standard of living is very much expected by a clear majority. Our "quality" of living that includes "sustainability" is a below normal standard kind of living. Cheap and simple budget solutions. "community": meaning: sharing certain resources, taking care of "needs" in a DIY fashion (do-it-yourself). More exposure to nature and weather. Dry toilets', heating with fire wood, sometimes even cooking over open fire. We maintain and build our own infrastructure. We grow and conserve some food every year. Very practical and hands on. Most likely considered low-status occupation by a majority of youth. But many of our participants do discover that we offer: empowerment, self confidence, and competences that gives you independence and agency. In order to offer these things we have had to also into our activities (non formal training) include: leadership, pedagogy and community building techniques. During the prolonged winter season our activities sort of dies down. This venue is VERY popular during summer season and are activities are very appreciated. Most people (including volunteers and Erasmus participants) are visitors. There are many that becomes members that visit over and over and take part in activities, many become leaders. But the project remains a seasonal activity. Including neighbors that are partly involved in the main project there are on average some 5 people living on the venue during winter time and this becomes 15-25 during summer season. These people are important - the ones that comes back many times a year, year after year. These are the people that carry the traditions forward. All the things learnt over the years. These are the people that forms the educational core of HFA, and they are increasingly under 30 years of age. In this context we did the project that we now report. 18 months of Erasmus that included 3 activities. THIS PROJECT It included three activities during an 18 month period. - Our annual, since 7 years back, youth exchange on the educational Live action role play method. - A Training course that focused on leadership and organization of events, using the YE above as a training project. - A new type of Youth exchange where we met the targets groups desire to be creative with their hands - building things. The Erasmus activities above linked to other activities at the venue of the host. As described in the background section above. So these three activities met the target groups needs, as well as our desire to support our organizations´ main objectives and work towards our long term goals. We wanted to offer quality activities for youth. Bringing back our most popular activity. Deepen our relationship with some partners. Try new partners (young new organizations) Blend our local community with European participants. And we wanted to work more with Ukraine.
