Objectives

Through this project we wanted to address what we have seen as an increasing need for both practical knowledge and strategies on how to work with issues of climate injustice in the world beyond national, geographic and socio-economic constructed barriers. This project and training course aimed to invigorate and empower youth workers seeking increased capacity in mobilising young people for issues related to climate justice and for social change. Climate injustice is an issue that should be regarded seriously and with urgency. There is a need to strengthen the capacities of youth workers to inform and empower young people on the topic. We wanted for youth workers to have increased abilities and capacities to run projects/ actions with youth that promote climate justice. The objectives of the project were therefore to: - increase knowledge about the connection between global justice and climate - increase knowledge about climate justice (including its definition, consequences, and real-world examples) - increase knowledge about how one runs social projects/actions - increase commitment to climate justice among young people Through interactive exercises, creative, and informal learning methods, this training course aimed to promote critical reflection about the ways in which global power structures were linked to matters of climate justice, how such structures connected to the participants' local settings and youth work, and provide a space to further consolidate youth participation and action. This was done by increasing knowledge about the connection between global (in)justice and climate, equipping the participants with concrete tools to easily engage themselves and others, as well as enabling conditions for creating solidarity networks and actions based on climate justice. The training course and project thus also worked towards generating international connections and facilitating mobility and exchange of knowledge among youth workers from different countries.
