The growth of youth gang violence and the proliferation of youth gangs into smaller cities from big cities in recent years focused public attention on the youth gang problem and made it an increasingly significant social policy issue. Hundreds of youth immigrants lost their lives while thousands lived in fear. As a youth organization, having a direct impact on the migrant youths that we worked with, we could make an impact by bringing in ideas on how time could be used in other ways than engaging in criminal gang activities. Our research among community youths, conducted by our youth workers through oral interviews, showed that sports were a uniting hobby for most of the youths, regardless of their background. Young migrants expressed during the interviews that most often their day consisted of gathering in the streets after school (or sadly, sometimes during school). They, young migrants, and sometimes the locals, spent time together, chatting, sometimes playing games, and taking walks. After a while, just sitting around got boring, so they started looking for something more exciting. It often started with alcohol or drugs. As time passed and with no job or money, the youths sadly came up with ideas to obtain money through illegal means. However, addressing this issue legally was beyond the capacity of our youth organization; nevertheless, we wanted to contribute to the root of the problem. Thus, the aim of the project was to offer young adults alternative ways of spending their free time by engaging them in different sports and facilitating the exchange of experiences in cultural sports. We aimed to organize Youth Gang Programs and Strategies to help these young people find alternative ways of spending their free time and shaping their future by showcasing positive examples from their peers in other countries. The objectives of the youth exchange program "Street Games" were as follows: ● To increase participants' competences in the field of free time planning (knowledge of the importance of spending free time actively, skills to manage time, attitude to change habits). ● To explore various forms of youth free time activities through sports. ● To support the exchange of good practices and experiences across participating countries, with the aim of encouraging young people to engage in sports. ● To explore the concept of sports as a desirable free time activity, ensuring that everyone has access to it regardless of their ethnicity, social status, or physical health, while respecting the rule of law. ● To encourage participants' level of involvement in raising awareness of the power of sports. ● To share information on the Erasmus+ Programme 2021-2027 and encourage young people to participate. ● To share information on raising awareness through social media and generate interest among young people from participating communities in the topics of sports and free time management. ● To create a series of three short videos on the topic of Street Games (as an alternative to street gangs) with the aim of promoting the topic.
