Objectives

Jönköpings kommun/KFF coordinated the Erasmus+ youth exchange called “Spectrum of Inclusion”, in cooperation with 4 European partner organizations. The project was 7 months long (01/06/2022 – 31/12/2022), and it included the following partners: Jönköpings kommun (Sweden), Comune di Cremona (Italy), Udruga P.O.I.N.T. (Croatia), Sport Evolution Alliance (Portugal), and Europäische Janusz Korczak Akademie e.V. (Germany). The project idea stemmed from an identified need for more inclusive, open, and accepting environments in societies across Europe. 10 young people from Jönköping (local youth and ESC volunteers) worked together on developing the project idea that will create more opportunities for meaningful connection between youth of different backgrounds. After discussion with project partners from Croatia, Italy, Portugal, and Germany, we understood that we have a responsibility to tackle the existing stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination, because we want to be the active citizens and the change we want to see in the world. The project aim was to create more inclusive opportunities for young people from disadvantaged groups in our communities, with an emphasis on youth with migrant/refugee background. Five objectives were set by the young people that developed the project. By gathering 30 young people from 5 EU countries, the 7 months long project aimed to: 1. develop key competences for lifelong learning. With respect to the topic of inclusion, intercultural competences will foster knowledge and critical understanding of the self. Eventually this will raise self-awareness in relation to prejudices, stereotypes, and discrimination. These competences will be put in practice when implementing local actions in their communities as follow-up activities. 2. create meaningful contacts through various leisure activities among young people from different EU countries and different socio-economic-cultural backgrounds, in a non-formal and informal learning setting. We aim to create a space for young people to connect and share opinions, concerns, and struggles. 3. improve the resilience skills of youth by fostering self-awareness and self-confidence and by learning strategies to cope with the challenges of inclusion, while helping others to enhance theirs. 4. tackle the question of inclusion across the EU. Indeed, we expect partner organizations to learn from each other.
