Background

The "Hero's journey" engages an art intervention technique based on a tool previously applied in a Swedish context from 2018 to 2020 through the implementation of the previous project "Hero School." The concept involves engaging youth between the ages of 14 and 25 who are at risk of exclusion from society. They join forces with youth actors and other local stakeholders to inspire through performing arts, enhance their emotional communication on an individual level, develop self-insight to navigate themselves and their strengths effectively, and investigate processes through hero stories. The goal is to create equal meeting points in society. The experiences gained from working with migrants' stories served as the starting point for the method's development. The young people are provided with the performing arts as a starting point to create spaces for discussion around hero myths, heroism, and their significance: What defines a hero? What qualities make a hero? Do you aspire to remain a hero? The method development incorporates the boundary between reality and fiction. The performing arts offer opportunities to approach subjects that are difficult and hard to access.
