Objectives

With this project, we aimed to train adult educators in general adult education to use information and communication technology (ICT) and modern teaching approaches to increase active participation in education and distance learning, especially among participants from vulnerable target groups. Through project activities, we aimed to empower and increase the number of qualified adult educators in using ICT for teaching, particularly for vulnerable target groups. We aimed to increase the involvement and activities of vulnerable target groups in the local community and empower them to use ICT critically and safely. Additionally, we aimed to increase access to education and distance learning and remove barriers preventing participants from participating in education (low digital competencies, geographical barriers). Through workshop preparation, we aimed to extend the project's effects to other organizations.

Background

Our organization is facing various challenges in the field of ICT use in education and teaching. Adult educators are not sufficiently skilled in using ICT for teaching. During the Covid-19 pandemic, this issue has become even more pronounced. Many educators struggled with remote teaching as they lacked the necessary skills in ICT and distance teaching. As a result, participants were deprived of quality education, especially vulnerable target groups who already require more motivation for learning. Educators also lack adequate knowledge of various tools and resources for ICT teaching. Additionally, many participants only have access to smartphones, which poses a challenge for educators who are not adept at adapting to this situation. Vulnerable target groups, such as Roma people, elderly, and others, are less likely to participate in education due to various obstacles: they do not know how to connect to distance education, physical inaccessibility, and geographical barriers such as poor public transportation hinder their involvement in lifelong learning. By enhancing educators' skills, we will achieve greater inclusion of vulnerable target groups in lifelong learning.
