Background

When the new Erasmus program period introduced the opportunity for the participation of adult learners in international mobilities, we, focusing on members of the University of the Third Age, unemployed and immigrants among our adult learners, requested feedback on their desires to engage and international mobilities. The analysis of the feedback revealed that our learners are afraid of participating in international project activities due to low-developed language competencies, with a particular emphasis on English, and fear of the unknown and cultural differences. We would also like to involve our learners in our KA2 local project activities and activities within international project meetings and training sessions that we host. However, we often encounter fear or resistance to participating in such activities, as they express apprehension about the unknown and active involvement, especially a fear of communicating in a foreign language. While over the years of participating in Erasmus+ projects, we have gained enough experience in motivating and preparing our staff and lecturers for participation in international mobilities and projects, we lack knowledge and skills on how to achieve the same with our adult learners.
