Objectives

With the project, we aimed to achieve several objectives. Firstly, we wanted to demonstrate the importance of local self-sufficiency and its positive impact on the environment and economy. We aimed for students and the wider community to understand how consuming locally grown food contributes to sustainable development and nature preservation. Additionally, we endeavored to reconnect students with nature and encourage them to explore local natural resources. We wanted students to appreciate the richness nature offers and understand the importance of environmental preservation for future generations. In doing so, we also aimed to promote healthy lifestyles and sustainable community development. We sought to raise awareness about the value of agriculture and the importance of caring for fertile land. We believe that experiential learning and participation in farm work are crucial for reconnecting with nature and understanding food production processes. Through this, we aimed for a sustainable future where people appreciate and respect nature, caring for it for the benefit of all.

Background

At Polhov Gradec Elementary School, we actively advocate for nature conservation and the promotion of sustainable living. Slovenia and Polhov Gradec provide an ideal environment for the development of local self-sufficiency, as we have clean water and abundant natural resources that enable the production of local food. However, an increasing number of students are opting for low-quality processed food and spending less time outdoors. With our project, we aim to encourage students to reconnect with nature, engage in outdoor learning, and enjoy locally grown food. Additionally, we strive to raise awareness about the importance of nature and environmental protection. The project brings together students and local stakeholders, achieving the goals of the Erasmus+ program, such as global learning, local action, and combating climate change. We aim to promote active student involvement in the local community, develop their skills, and guide them towards co-creating a sustainable future.
