Objectives

We aimed to increase the flexibility of opportunities in vocational education and training by taking the first steps towards developing a new profession by implementing new approaches to motivate the long-term unemployed and contribute to the strategic goal of social responsibility. Our activities focused on laying the groundwork for a new profession, "Motivator for Self-Sufficiency," which could be recognized through non-formal learning and experience. Specifically we wanted to empower adult volunteers to start-up with self-sufficiency through gaining practical skills based on their active participation in project activities. Special emphasis was placed on promoting social inclusion to improve access to opportunities for individuals with fewer resources, ensuring diversity among participants. Through an inclusive approach, we aimed to create an environment that meets the needs of the broader community, especially during the current crises. We also wanted to support the development of green skills and strengthen the social responsibility of educational institutions, fostering the mindset that self-sufficiency is not only vital for the agricultural sector but also for society as a whole.

Background

We live in a time of rapid and unpredictable changes that can lead to crises related to basic necessities such as food, clothing, and energy. As highlighted in the EUSkillsAgenda (2020), adapting to new conditions requires the development of new skills and knowledge to maintain employment. Promoting greater food self-sufficiency and preparing alternative sources of well-being, including developing new professions to motivate long-term unemployed individuals towards self-sustainability, is essential. Through this project, we aimed to support the EUSkillsAgenda (2020) initiatives for a transition to a green and digital society by developing basic green skills and involving the unemployed in practical learning opportunities that could lead to formal certification, employment, or entrepreneurship in this sector. Registered unemployment rate in SLO in January 2022 was 6,9%, and in IT 8,5% compared to the EU average of 6.2%. Both partners perceive gaps in support for the activation of the long-term unemployed. Therefore, we addressed in the project needs such as lack of skills, work experience, and motivation while striving to create effective solutions for social inclusion and improving the well-being of the long-term unemployed.
