Objectives

We wanted to wake up the young people from the passively consuming individuals into active, cooperating and creative citizens of local and broader society and equip them with key new knowledge and competences that will enable their creative, sovereign and articulated expression in their everyday life. Through the topic of the “returned allowance of gathering and mutual creation”, we wanted for the young people to share their own experiences and their own perception of the current political, cultural and social reality of each of the participating countries and to develop and strengthen their vision of a newly establishing a more free, self-expressed and satisfied personal and social reality, as in the spirit of the slogan of the European Year of Youth: Now is the moment to move forward with self-esteem and hope in the post-pandemic perspective. Due to both partner organisations being from the region of South Eastern Europe with similar languages, we have encouraged our participants to focus and get-to-know the culture of both countries and to communicate in the languages of both countries rather than in English. To assure the immersion into both cultural contexts, we chose to organise two youth exchanges within this one project – one in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and one in Belgrade (Serbia) – and to invite the same participants to both of them. The goal of the “PLACE yourSELF INto public SPACE 3” project is local and international connection of young people of different profiles that get an opportunity to be creatively active in public space as well as in a big top tent (in a circus village) and to explore skills of interactive street theatre and circus as well as how these two different disciplines influence each-other and how, fused together, they build a new discipline of art. In each of the two youth exchanges a final performance was prepared and performed in a public space. Through mutual exploration, young people will train in group work, develop their individual interdisciplinary expression and gain knowledge and skills that will be useful to them in their further work, in the area of their artistic expression as well as in their everyday life, when looking for a job, within their studies and other education.
