Objectives

International youth exchanges at Slovenian Philanthropy are perceived as activities that contribute to personal growth, acquiring competencies, intercultural connectivity, and preventing the radicalization of young people. All organizations involved in the programs include young people with fewer opportunities. In addition to the results of the exchange described in reports, we often observe and monitor the long-term effects on young people for years after the experience. Frequently, adolescents or already adults (former participants) approach us, sharing how the experience has changed their lives. For the international youth exchange YOUNG AGAIN, we decided to address the declining resilience of young people, the increasing mental pressures, and fears. Therefore, in the YOUNG AGAIN exchange, we focused on themes of reconnecting with oneself, meeting one's needs, connecting with the group, collaborating with others, and activating in the community. The purpose of the exchange was to provide young people with a quality holiday experience where they could authentically connect with themselves and others. At the same time, they would collaboratively create an intercultural environment where everyone would have the opportunity for open discussions about their expectations, challenges, talents, fears, and pressures they experience. We focused on the strengths of young people and equipped them with various techniques to help themselves. We created an environment that encouraged reflection on the role and understanding of young people in today's world, emphasizing how they can be active co-creators of their own lives and contribute to community and global well-being. Through workshops, nature challenges, support from youth leaders, and group activities, they explored the challenges they face and their areas of strength. Through creative media, they expressed these experiences. The exchange promoted informal learning, intercultural and peer collaboration, creativity, and the acquisition of social skills. Objectives: 1. Under quality leadership, young people were removed from urban hustle and sought answers to life's questions in a natural setting. Through reflection, they had the opportunity to build self-empathy and empathy towards others. 2. Through activities, we encouraged young people to explore personal characteristics, discover their strengths, and get to know others. They learned about their own identity and the cultures of other nations, exploring ways to co-create the community they live in and contemplating how to transfer this experience to their local/national environment after the exchange. 3. Participants reflected on what it means to be a young person in today's world, their desires, needs, and challenges, presenting them through various media. 4. Young people had the opportunity to strengthen peer, intercultural, and interfaith understanding, collaboration, and solidarity. Building understanding led to friendships regardless of nationality, religion, status, or other personal circumstances (refugees, young people from socially disadvantaged environments, etc.). The exchange included young people facing various risk factors (young people with fewer opportunities) as well as young volunteers. 5. Young people co-created the exchange by taking responsibility for coexistence. Those who had previously participated in exchanges took on more responsible roles. Positive encouragement strengthened their self-esteem, reduced social exclusion, and increased feelings of self-worth. The participation of young refugees contributed to their better integration. 6. Through collaboration in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the exchange, young people learned a lot about organizing, conducting, and preparing projects. With the help of leaders and other participants, they were encouraged to apply these skills and experiences in planning their own paths. 7. We promoted a healthy lifestyle, life close to nature, and were mindful of our role in the environment. We engaged in physical activities, encouraging young people to take responsibility for carrying out individual activities.
