Objectives

The subject of the project "Are We Encouraged to Participate?" was active participation of young people in society. The content was focused on how young participants can become more active and strengthen their participation in the democratic life. We have debated about encouraging and engaging them in their community and consequently what impact they can create by doing so. We have also talked about traditional and alternative forms of cooperation and about the challenges and needs related to the activation of young people. During the youth exchange, we have used various methods of non-formal education, including numerous workshops, seminars, challenges, games and exercises. We have encouraged the participants to debate why it is important for young people to be active and creative both individually and collectively in everyday, business, democratic and online activities. During the exchange, they have been working together in mixed groups and this way, they have exchanged opinions, experiences and arguments. They have offered their ideas and suggestions about active participation in general and about the ways in which they could contribute to positive changes in their environment. They have also debated what are the advantages if the young people are active and what are the disadvantages if they are passive. The purpose of these debates was to motivate and, in a positive sense, provoke the young participants to use their own potential in their lives, help others and make their contribution to the world around them. The discussed subject covers a very wide area. The partners wanted to achieve two goals within the framework of this project. The basic goal was to raise awareness and encourage young participants to actively engage and participate in everyday democratic life. We tried to encourage them to be active in as many areas as possible from this point of view and thereby, to prepare them to cope with the needs and challenges of the modern world. The long-term goal of the project was to build a basis for further guidance and research into more concrete topics and issues as far as youth participation and cooperation is concerned. The project partners would thus develop new initiatives and projects that would be a continuation of it.
