Objectives

The project started from he premises that the importance and the role of playing in everyday life is increasingly recognised. The project aimed at giving youngsters occasions to learn through play not only to fosters their creative thinking, problem solving, independence, and perseverance, but also to addresses their developmental needs for greater independence and ownership of their learning, opportunities for physical activity and creative expression, and their ability to demonstrate competence. We wanted to teach a youth work method that allow youngsters to make choices relevant to their interests, direct their own learning, engage their imaginations, experiment with adult roles and play physically. Through this we want to foster their motivation and interest for learning and foster a more positive learning experiences. To reach our objectives, we chose social games because they have been proven to be an effective tool to stimulate learning and create moments of deep reflection and understanding on a personal level. The objectives of the project were : - To identify and explore social topics that influence youth in the countries of the project´s partners - To introduce games as an educational tool to tackle various social topics in learning environments - To give participants tools for mapping and identifying their learning needs - To equip participants with tools for educational and experiential game learning - To create a manual of educational games and share it with participants and other youth workers - To test various social games and analyse their usability in the context of youth work - To empower youth workers/youth leaders to use social games in their daily work - To share games among participants The project aimed to equip youth workers and youth leaders with tools, frameworks and space to create and implement educational social games workshops that address social issues and can be applied in their environments. Acquiring new pedagogical competences enabled them to: - Diversify their field of action by learning about social games approach, project management and animation techniques - Raise the attractiveness and quality of their programs - Provide them with an innovative and flexible method that closely respond to the needs of individuals and address the needs of the youngster with fewer opportunities. Our project also aimed at introducing youth workers and youngsters to positive, healthy activities that encourages co-operation, strengthen confidence, develop communication skills, compassion and empathy toward others. The effect of playing social games is much more than just having fun, it is a process that can profoundly transform one’s vision of themselves and interaction with others and direct people towards a constructive and positive way of life. Having qualified staff is a crucial issue for youth organization and our partners allocate many resources on training their volunteers. Unfortunately, these same resources are diverted from educational program for the youngsters themselves. For this reason, we provided our partners with an opportunity to educate their staff, give them tools to reach different target groups and provide them with skills immediately applicable. We helped them to implement new educational program including social games within their own organization, thus improving their quality and reach. The duty of youth organization is to improve the quality and consistency of non-formal education. Being able to collaborate and create network of associations in order to share good practices is the key to do that. This is why we involved 11 different countries in our project, so that partners build their social capital and develop new projects. We believe that these projects are a key to more efficient youth work, and therefore a key to improving youngsters’ lifestyle, promoting the inclusion of people with disadvantaged backgrounds, empowering young people and enhancing their active citizenship across the European Union. In accordance with the general objectives of Erasmus+ program and the specific objectives of KA1, our project addressed the issues of: - Youth work quality and improvement. We provided pedagogical improvement for youth workers and their respective organizations and more recognition of youth work in general. - Active participation in society. We addressed directly or indirectly issues such as social skills improvement for target groups, health and well-being of young people, young people’s active participation, promotion of mutual solidarity and young people’s creativity. - European cooperation and awareness.
