With this project, we wanted to revive and re-launch amateur culture and independent action in Trbovlje, which we had in abundance in the past, but which has been declining in the last decade. This aspect was highlighted by the young people working within the Youth Theatre of Freedom Trbovlje (MGST which operates as a section within the framework of the KD Svoboda, a partner in the project), one of the few active associations with many young members. Together with them and other local partners, we developed this project to respond to this challenge. We designed several activities to support young people in understanding different types of creativity and supporting their ideas, to showcase and connect different sectors, to open a space for dialogue with decision-makers and to end with a two-day festival. In preparing the project, the young people also highlighted the MGST's primary need to keep the building of the Freedom House under the ownership and management of the associations that work there. We also addressed this need and during the project, we renovated two rooms in the Freedom House, which will serve as spaces to support creativity and intergenerational cooperation from September 2023. The initiative for the project came from the young members of MGST, but they contacted us, Aspira, to apply, as they had no experience in applying for similar projects. Due to the need to support young people in their creativity, we invited other local partners to participate and together we designed this project. The PROJECT aimed to stimulate creative breakthroughs of the participating sectors and young people in the local environment. THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES WERE: To put the challenges of young people on the agenda in the local environment during the European Year of Youth. To create a community space for an independent creative renaissance in the local environment. To empower young people for creative breakthroughs. The project involved 4 partners. The applicant was Aspira Institute, the partners were Peglezn, KD Svoboda Trbovlje (section Mladinski gledališče Svoboda Trbovlje) and the association Trbovlje Novomedijsko mesto.
