Primarily, the project equipped young people with knowledge and information on forms of active citizenship (volunteering, participatory budgeting, participation in youth dialogue, etc.) and empowered them to share their wishes, needs and initiatives with decision-makers. In doing so, we created a safe environment that enabled young people to engage, learn informally and empower themselves to confidently approach and seize opportunities offered by the local environment (e.g. volunteering at the European Youth Olympic Festival). The project has strengthened and broadened youth participation and the application of youth work methods in the field of sports participation (e.g. to conclude the participation with an evaluation of the competences acquired). The universal language of sport was used to create a space for the realisation of the fundamental values and principles of the European Union: equality, solidarity, dignity and sustainable development. Under the mentorship of youth workers and ambassadors, young people were actively involved in the implementation of the European Youth Olympic Festival, developing positive attitudes towards teamwork, responsibility-taking, perseverance and the ability to overcome obstacles, tolerance and respect for diversity. Secondarily, the cooperation between the project partners, who are important actors in the field of youth work, has been strengthened. A supportive relationship has been established between the partners, which will allow for a deeper cooperation in the future, the possibility of transferring good practices and, as a positive consequence, better services for young people. The partners in the project are, in addition to MKC Maribor, the only public institution in the field of youth in Maribor, the Municipality of Maribor, which adopts a local youth programme, and Sport Maribor, the manager of public sports facilities. The intersection of the two objectives was to develop guidelines for promoting volunteering among young people in the local community in the field of sports, and thus to ensure greater involvement of young people in society. Specific objectives that we achieved: we trained 15 ambassadors who took an active role in managing the project and project activities, we organised workshops in 8 secondary schools involving 1833 students, carried out education for volunteers, collected 651 youth initiatives, organised a Youth Dialogue in the framework of the European Youth Olympic Festival attended by 174 people, where we presented the youth initiatives to six decision-makers, implemented the initiative, and organised a closing event in the form of a Youth Dialogue.
