The main goal of our project was to permanently establish a high quality service of "Library under the treetops" in Jurovski Dol, supported by a series of inclusive community events (round tables, workshops, moderated debates) and quality cultural/artistic events that would promote community building and dialogue between young people and local decision-makers (especially candidates in the autumn local elections). "Library under the treetops" is a very well known, widely recognized and extremely popular project for spreading reading culture in Slovenia, which has been operating at the national level from 2004 - in the organization of our partner organization Divja misel. The project especially pursued the following Youth Goals: Space and Participation for All, Moving Rural Youth Forward, Information & Constructive Dialogue, Inclusive Societies, Equality of All Genders, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Quality Learning, Sustainable Green Europe. It seeked to empower young people and enable them to engage effectively with local decision-makers on their expectations for the future (think globally, act locally) and increase the influence of young people on decisions about the future of the local community. Community events organized by young people addressed sustainable rural development - quality cultural events in the rural areas, environmental crisis management at local level, environmental planning, protection of natural and cultural heritage, active citizenship, participatory budgeting, healthy and satisfying living environment for all. The innovative open-air library, which was publicly accessible three days a week, enriched the local community with a new community space for casual meetings, a creative and inclusive platform that enabled the construction of an active, engaged, connected and solidarity community. It also enriched the local community with several quality cultural events, selected by young participants, for which young people would otherwise have to drive to the city. The project established activities for social inclusion of the elderly and visually impaired (loud reading) and inclusive activities for children (storytelling, workshops). The project addressed the needs of young people in a (rural) local environment who do not have sufficient and equal access to quality cultural content, which makes them discriminated in comparison to their peers in urban areas; their access to quality cultural content is highly dependent on the social and economic situation of their families. The project also responded to the perceived crisis of democracy and to the exclusive (especially for young people) political decision-making in the local community. The project addressed the need for inclusive, transparent, sustainable environmental planning on the local level, the need to address the global environmental crisis and the need for better management of local natural and cultural heritage. It wanted to create conditions for the formation of a well-thought-out, high quality, clear and long-term Strategy for young people in the municipality.
