Objectives

By implementing the project, we wanted to ensure that more people from diverse backgrounds contribute to Wikipedia and its sister projects in a high-quality and efficient manner. Thanks to this, quality open (free) educational resources will be widely available, with which the general public can increase their education and cross-cultural understanding (including the positive integration of different perspectives). At the same time, these contributors will improve a number of their skills, including digital competence, computing, virtual collaboration and co-creation, textual conflict resolution, working with intellectual property, critical thinking and more. The applicant wanted to better scale his activity (instead of personally learning the basics of contributing, he simply refers interested parties to project materials, and the saved time can be invested in other work). At the same time, in this way he wanted to reach out to interested parties whom he could not train personally. The partner organizations wanted to train their members, activists, employees and supporters in contributing to Wikipedia earlier, faster and with better quality and thus support their activities.

Background

We asked for the project to support people in the voluntary creation of open educational materials in Wikipedia and its sister projects. Wikipedia is among the 10 most visited websites on Internet, but it is written almost exclusively by volunteers. The applicant organized trainings, but they could not be scaled. We wanted to create materials with which people can learn on their own, when they have time, at their own speed, and train a few people. The applicant's addressed need is to efficiently and scaleably help many diverse people create content for Wikipedia and its sister projects. The addressed need of the partners is the ability of their members, activists and supporters to contribute to Wikipedia, and in this way e.g. present their local culture, practice their working language, write about topics related to their further work, etc.). The addressed need of those interested in contributing to Wikipedia and its sister projects (among project organizations and the public) is to get the opportunity to start contributing easily, quickly, efficiently, and with high quality, so that their contributions will remain in Wikipedia for a long time (in accordance with the rules) and to acquire these skills in a suitable way.
