Objectives

As Izmir Katip Celebi University (IKCU), we have implemented the Erasmus student mobility and staff mobility program according to European Union priorities and several key objectives we set, such as to encourage and support European Integration and increase the number of mobility of students, academic and administrative staff and collaborations. During all our Erasmus+ projects, we tried to strengthen awareness of being European and support collaboration between EU countries. Erasmus+ projects ensured opportunities for many students to study in different countries of Europe. In this way, many of our students who have never gone abroad before had the right and opportunity to study and do an internship abroad. All our students participating Erasmus+ program improved their language proficiency when they started living in a different country and meeting diverse cultures. During this Project term, we researched collaboration opportunities and contacted many European universities for our common departments. With this program, we signed many bilateral agreements with the universities in Europe, so we increased the number of our cooperations. Our students who now have experience abroad and improved their language skills received positive responses from their job applications. Through the exchange of students, learning new teaching methods is possible for all students. Students’ negative perspectives on different cultures before going to Europe have changed significantly and it has been noticed that their prejudices have decreased. Students could access the various teaching methods so that their awareness about academic and personal matters is improved. Based on our professional experiences, it can be commented that there have been positive changes in the academic and personal development of all students who participated in the program. The Erasmus staff mobility program was also implemented with several specific goals aimed at improving the quality of education, encouraging international collaboration, and fostering personal and professional development for academic and administrative staff. By experiencing different academic environments, our academic staff learned new approaches and innovative practices to implement them for their students. Enhancing cooperation between higher education contributes to the development of higher education institutions. Through Erasmus staff mobility, universities benefited from the expertise and knowledge that staff gained while abroad. These mobilities strengthened our partnerships and expanded our networks. The opportunity to teach in a different academic environment motivated our staff highly. So that this mobility contributed to increasing job satisfaction. Thanks to this Project, we achieved the goals that we planned at the beginning of the Project. Finally, we can say that we have made a significant contribution to the understanding of European values through student and staff mobilities, and collaborations that are ensured between institutions. Regardless of whether they are student or staff, improving language skills is crucial for internationalization, and that’s why our students and staff can contribute to their language proficiency. Our university all the time supports the internationalization strategies of universities, student and staff exchanges, and international projects. Within the scope of our university’s internationalization policies, our Erasmus team and academic staff attach great importance to EU Projects, staff mobility is also important in terms of meeting new partners and establishing new partnerships for these EU Projects. Both student and staff mobilities strengthen a sense of European identity. Increasing the quality of our education system, improving our institutional capacity, and gaining awareness of being European is the most important of our Project goals.
