Our project, implemented under the Erasmus+ DiscoverEU Inclusion Action, aimed to support the social, cultural, and personal development of young people with fewer opportunities, to connect them with the learning opportunities that Europe offers, and to strengthen their self-confidence. Our primary goal was to promote the active participation of disadvantaged youth in social life, to enable them to explore different cultures, and to enhance their individual competences. Throughout the project, we specifically targeted young people who face socio-economic obstacles and have limited access to international opportunities. Through our project, many of these young participants were able to travel abroad for the first time, discover the social and cultural structures of another country, communicate in an international environment, and act more independently. These experiences not only boosted their individual self-esteem, but also helped them develop empathy, tolerance, intercultural understanding, and solidarity. In our project, young people were not positioned as passive participants, but rather as active contributors involved in the planning, implementation, and evaluation phases. Through preparatory information sessions, individual mentoring, and group activities, participants were well prepared for their mobility experience and were able to engage with the process in a more conscious and meaningful way. With this project, we took another concrete step toward our long-term institutional goal of increasing the visibility of disadvantaged youth, creating spaces where they can express themselves, and encouraging them toward active citizenship. The outcomes achieved were not only at the individual level but also significantly contributed to strengthening Mozaik’s institutional capacity as an organization that implements inclusive youth work at both local and national levels.
