Objectives

We aimed to achieve several important objectives by implementing the project. First, we sought to raise awareness among students and their families about the environmental risks and problems caused by domestic waste. Our goal was to foster a 'Green Environmental Awareness' not only among students but also within the broader community. Additionally, we aimed to emphasize the positive environmental impact of recycling practices and encourage students to adopt essential recycling behaviors, skills, and habits. Integrating digital technologies within an interdisciplinary framework aligned with the EU Energy Policy was another critical objective. We worked toward creating and implementing e-learning and e-material platforms to enhance environmental education through digital and innovative applications. Through 3D simulations, we provided students with a realistic understanding of how environmental destruction occurs, making the learning experience more tangible and impactful. Ultimately, we aimed to improve students' technology literacy, enabling them to better comprehend and utilize modern digital tools for environmental sustainability.

Background

We applied for this project because we recognized an urgent need to raise awareness about environmental problems, particularly among young people. The results of the 'Sensitivity Survey to Environmental Problems,' conducted with our partner schools from Turkey, Spain, Romania, and Italy, revealed that only 12% of the 2,876 students surveyed showed sensitivity toward environmental issues. This finding highlighted a significant lack of awareness, as 88% of the students were unaware of the environmental challenges and their potential consequences for future life. The main needs we addressed were environmental awareness, energy efficiency education, and the promotion of renewable energy use. We observed that students lacked sufficient knowledge about the climate crisis, global warming, and sustainable practices. Therefore, we aimed to develop education and training materials focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy, guided by the EU's resource efficiency principles, in collaboration with our foreign partners. Through this project, we sought to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to adopt environmentally conscious behaviors and contribute to a sustainable future.
