The three core project objectives of the Green Meme Effect project were to: 1) Foster and promote green thinking, lifestyle and attitudes in youth and marginalised youth. 2) Equip the actors in the physical and digital social space (youth workers, youth support, parents, peers, companies/NGOs/local authorities) to become green role models and inspire through micro-interventions. 3) Promote social responsibility, initiative and participation in eco-friendly and sustainable action in the local communities.
The Green Meme Effect project was designed to support the European Green Deal by finding new ways to reach out to young people and engage them actively in the fight against climate change. The project identified and addressed five concrete needs: 1) Raising awareness about climate change was the most important need and priority of this project and all activities ultimately served the goal of contributing to a green European movement. 2) (Re-)Connecting with youth and marginalised youth in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic by providing engaging ways to make and deepen contact with young people and their support system. 3) Empowering young people to take green actions by providing low-threshold entry points and tangible, achievable actions. 4) Create engagement and participation opportunities in local/regional communities in which young people are directly addressed and true agents of change. 5) Updating the social spatial paradigm to fit the life realities of young people by extending the definition to digital social and thus bridging physical and digital spaces, because for young people, online engagement is second nature. Reaching them via digital channels ensures inclusive participation in environmental action.
