The IMC Basis project, developed by Stichting IMC Weekendschool in the Netherlands, lets students explore different professions at school, bridging the gap between the education sector and the world of work in the Netherlands. This project aimed to assess the transferability of IMC Basis to the Belgian education system, especially in Brussels. TADA conducted observations and engaged with stakeholders to evaluate its feasibility. The project's outcomes were presented at the STEP conference to inspire European educators to adopt similar pedagogical models.
The project's main goal was to bridge the labor-market and school system gap in Belgium, specifically focusing on young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds who face a high risk of early school dropout due to educational inequality. TADA and Stichting IMC Weekendschool provide extracurricular programs that inspire and motivate children from disadvantaged neighborhoods, primarily through the renowned 'Weekend School' model. Stichting IMC introduced the IMC Basis project, offering primary school students a direct connection to the labor market, allowing them to experience different professions firsthand. To address this educational inequality, TADA, Stichting IMC Weekendschool, and the STEP Institute collaborated to explore the potential implementation of IMC Basis in Brussels and beyond, aiming to reduce educational disparities and school dropout rates. Their shared mission is to foster inclusivity and competence development in children suffering from educational inequality. The project's outcome, to be shared through STEP Institute's international network, aims to benefit others with similar needs across Europe. This initiative directly addresses the urgent need in Brussels and contributes to creating a more inclusive society
