Shake the table originated from the idea of giving girls who do not always feel integrated into society because of their roots, their gender or their autism, more self-confidence, by focusing on self-acceptance and self-care. They encounter many prejudices that limit their actions. For Moroccan girls it is 'being a girl' that limits them, for girls with autism it is the cliché image about autism that hinders them from being able to be themselves. The Moroccan girls, from the Moroccan group, live in a very protected patriarchal society. For them, being allowed to travel alone, to work on themselves as a person, is an almost unreal event. The aim for them is to become acquainted with the concept of well-being, autism and self-care. Traveling alone, from their home to Marrakech, is a step that requires a lot of persuasion and motivation. The aim of this exchange was to teach them that it is possible, that they will gain confidence if they believe in it themselves. The goal is for these girls to inspire others to focus more on their personal development in the future. The aim of the project was to improve mental well-being, introduce people to different cultures and backgrounds and raise awareness of the autism spectrum among the Muslim community (Belgian and Moroccan Muslim participants). Attention to mental well-being is something that is difficult for the majority of participants (Muslim community). In addition, the aim was also to introduce Belgian Muslim girls to their 'roots'. The Moroccan girls wanted to learn what mental well-being means in Belgium, what autism is, and how they can use nature to improve their mental well-being. The aim was also to introduce the Berber and Arab girls to each other's culture in order to gain more understanding of each other's way of life. For the Belgian girls, the aim was to become acquainted with these differences and their impact on daily life (inside and outside Morocco). With our exchange, especially for girls, we want girls to discover that they are equal to boys, that they have just as much right to free time and freedom.
