As Youth for Understanding (YFU), we are commited to the empowerment of young people on local, national, European and global levels. We believe that many of today’s pressing global issues can be successfully tackled by meaningfully engaging young people as key actors in all steps of the process. In this effort, the Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES) 2023 project aimed to empower young people of different socio-cultural background to become actors of change in their communities by equipping them with practical skills to tackle these pressing issues, presenting some of the biggest Global issues societies have to deal with at the moment through immersive learning experiences and giving them the chance to develop and implement their own solutions through participatory methods, paving the way for them to become responsible and active citizens. More concretely, for the YES 2023, we set the following specific objectives: To increase and strengthen young peoples’ knowledge & awareness necessary to tackle current European and global issues such as mental health and resilience; To increase and strengthen young peoples’ skills in the areas of: Leadership, Project Design, Project Management, Public Speaking; Provide an opportunity for young people from all over Europe to come together and attempt to offer tangible solutions to a challenge our society is facing, developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for them to do this also at the local level; Increase cooperation and friendships between young people across Europe, leading to a more peaceful and sustainable world; Improve the quality of cross-sectorial cooperation between non-governmental organisations in the youth field, private sector and public institutions by involving actors from each field in creating a high-quality educational experience for young people; By exploring these issues, solutions that can be implemented at the local, national and global level, and the competencies needed to implement these solutions we contributed to transforming the participants of the YES into conscious and engaged actors of change, people who contribute to a more peaceful and inclusive society.
