Initially, we identified several key areas where intervention was needed. Firstly, there was a significant skills gap in the CCIs, particularly in managerial skills, collaboration skills, and green operational skills. Secondly, there was a lack of tailored training opportunities specifically designed for adult workers in the CCIs to acquire these green skills. Finally, there was a growing recognition of the urgent need for the CCIs to embrace sustainability and contribute to the fight against climate change, but limited resources and initiatives were available to support this transition. Our aim was to empower adult workers in the CCIs with essential green skills, facilitating their transition to a more sustainable, green economy. We sought to address the skills gap, offering tailored training opportunities to meet their unique needs. By promoting environmental sustainability and fostering innovation within the CCIs, we aimed to contribute to global sustainability goals while supporting industry growth and resilience. Collaboration with partners enabled us to build capacity and foster transnational cooperation, ultimately creating lasting impact in the CCIs.
We applied for this project because we recognized a critical need within the cultural and creative industries (CCIs) for upskilling and training opportunities, particularly in the area of green skills. The CCIs are rapidly expanding sectors of the global economy, but they face challenges in transitioning to a more sustainable, green economy. Our project aimed to address this gap by focusing on the development of transversal green skills among adult workers in the CCIs. These skills are essential for supporting the industries' transition to a green economy and aligning with global sustainability goals, such as the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. We believed that by developing a tailored pedagogical methodology, curriculum, and e-learning course focused on green skills development using Design Thinking as a basis, we could empower adult workers in the CCIs to thrive in a rapidly changing economic landscape while also contributing to environmental sustainability. Our motivation stemmed from a desire to support the growth and resilience of the CCIs while also addressing urgent global challenges such as climate change.
