Objectives

We wanted to increase participants' understanding of environmental issues, particularly the impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss, and unsustainable practices. Our goal was to educate them about the importance of adopting eco-friendly behaviors and policies. A significant aim was to create a sense of shared responsibility for the future by fostering collaboration among participants from different backgrounds. We wanted to build a network of individuals and organizations working together towards a common goal of sustainability. A critical goal was to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to address environmental challenges. By educating them on these issues, we aimed to prepare them to lead future efforts in creating a healthier and more sustainable world. Ultimately, we wanted the project to have a lasting impact by instilling values and behaviors in participants that would continue to benefit the environment and society long after the project concluded. We envisioned this project as a stepping stone towards larger, sustained efforts in environmental protection and active citizenship.

Background

We applied for this project because we recognized an urgent need to address two critical issues: environmental degradation and the lack of active citizenship among younger generations. In our community, we observed a growing disconnect between people and the environment, as well as a lack of awareness about the long-term consequences of climate change. This was coupled with a noticeable gap in civic engagement, particularly among students and young people, who often felt disconnected from the impact of their actions on both a local and global scale. Our main goal was to inspire a new generation of active citizens who are not only aware of the environmental challenges we face but are also equipped and motivated to take meaningful action towards creating a more sustainable and healthier world. From this perspective, one of the mot important objectives of our project was to cultivate a sense of shared responsibility among participants for their collective future.
