Objectives

The project "eHealth4Autism" offered the opportunity to the partners to collaborate on a project concerning Adults with Autism and the potential benefits of the use of non-clinical applications. The partnership acted as the stepping stone for three partners from Cyprus, Greece, and Belgium to cooperate toward a common objective at the European level. In the context of the project, we supported the inclusion of people with autism who have fewer opportunities in national awareness events and brought the European dimension to the local level. Partners shared successful IT tools for autism and enhanced their expertise and communication skills. Transnational cooperation in the context of the project contributed to increased cohesion and levelled the playing field. The proposed transnational partnership allowed for the testing of new approaches to common problems, trying new ideas, and sharing a booklet of good practices in the area of autism. The project participants developed a habit of cooperation and knowledge exchange. In conclusion, "eHealth4Autism" fostered cross-country collaboration, enhancing expertise sharing, and promoting transnational cooperation for the benefit of adults with autism.

Background

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the mental health needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD, which affects communication, social interaction, and behavior, presents unique challenges for adults. While early intervention for children with ASD has received attention, services for adults are lacking, compounded by stigma and communication barriers. Given the prevalence of ASD and the increasing recognition of adults' mental health needs, innovative approaches to support this population are crucial. Non-clinical e-health solutions, such as technology-based applications, offer promising avenues for accessible support. The project "Sharing good practices for the use of non-clinical e-health solutions for adults with ASD and their caregivers in Europe" aims to bridge this gap by identifying effective strategies. By leveraging e-health solutions, individuals can access tailored resources, empowering them to manage their mental health effectively. Through collaboration and knowledge exchange, the project seeks to promote the widespread adoption of e-health solutions, ultimately enhancing the well-being of adults with ASD and their caregivers across Europe.
