Objectives

The overall objective of WEAVE was to contribute to increasing digital inclusion by promoting web accessibility. To achieve this, it set the following specific objectives: 1. Equip post-secondary VET providers with resources on accessible web design 2. Increase and encourage the inclusion of people with any kinds of disabilities online 3. Enrich the professional competences and the employment prospects of web developers 4. Increase the readiness of the stakeholders for the implementation of the European Accessibility Act (EAA)

Background

The WEAVE project was conceived to address significant needs in digital inclusion and accessibility. With the rapid digital transformation, especially accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, a large portion of life now takes place online. However, many people with disabilities face barriers in accessing digital content. This project aimed to bridge this digital divide by providing VET providers and practitioners with the necessary tools and knowledge to create accessible web environments. WEAVE focused on enhancing digital skills, promoting web accessibility, and ensuring compliance with EU regulations like the Web Accessibility Directive and the European Accessibility Act. Targeting VET educators and students, WEAVE sought to improve the professional competencies of web developers and increase the inclusion of people with disabilities in the digital space, thereby fostering an inclusive digital environment for all. The project also intended to prepare stakeholders for the implementation of new accessibility legislation, ensuring readiness and compliance across the EU.
