Objectives

This project aims to develop a scenario-based cyber security e-Learning platform supported by educational tools to teach immigrant and refugee parents how to ensure digital safety and online security so that they can safely engage in digital works required for work, leisure, and most importantly, ensure the safety of their children against online and cyber threats.

Background

After Ukraine war cyber attacks affect EU countries and its individuals, and increased importance of cyber security not only Germany but also EU countries. On the other hand, certain online practices, or lack thereof, can place a child or young person's emotional and physical well-being at risk. This is particularly the case where little or no attention has been paid to monitoring use, communicating with children or young people about us, or securing the device being used. In these cases, online safety is a child protection issue, and parents can be considered the first responders against threats to their children’s digital/online safety. While online safety is important for protecting children and young people from dangerous and inappropriate websites and materials, this does not mean that parents should discourage their children from using digital technology. This would be against the digitalization efforts of the EU as an advanced society. The challenge is to help children and young people enjoy the benefits of going online while having the skills and knowledge to identify and avoid the risks. Thus, the digital competency of parents and their ability to safeguard their children against threats is of utmost importance.
