Cooperation between educational institutions and business

Objectives

The aim of the proposal was to bring together vocational schools and training centers with textile laboratories, producers and enterprises and pave the way for the knowledge transfer from the practice (business) to the education (schools, training centers). In this way we were able to update the curricula and thus upskill custom tailor and fashion designer students with relevant know-how on innovative textiles.

Background

The vocational education and training in the clothing sector needs to go hand by hand with the innovations in the textile and leather industry. New developments and innovations in the textile production (natural and synthetic fibers), in the leather manufacturing and in the field of vegan alternatives to leather needs to be considered by generating new skills and competences of the future skilled crafts in this sector (e.g. tailor, fashion designer, clothing technical assistant, etc.) as garments, textiles and leather are fundamental elements of their future work. The current developments require the update of the vocational education and training of future skilled crafts in various corresponding sectors, especially in relation to the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, where ecological, economic and social components of sustainability have to be considered alongside the whole circular economy.
